::from the ground up::

i began a garden on my roof about a month ago, after finally mustering up the courage to go up against new york city squirrels. it turns out, some netting and a few sticks make an excellent repellant. i'm growing parsley, cilantro, basil, mint, arugula and tomatoes. since i dream of the day i can grow all my own produce, this first dip into self-sustainability in a tiny studio has me excited for years to come. once the school year is over, i plan on extending my garden and creating a little sitting area.

i have begun to eat a sprig or two from the garden (i am, i'll admit, a little hesitant to alter the lush beauty.) the best dish i've prepared so far was an arugula & strawberry salad. the strawberries are from the grand army farmer's market :)

try out this delicious, fresh creation yourself:

-a few small handfuls of arugula
-4-5 juicy, ripe strawberries
-pinch of maldon sea salt
-few grinds of fresh black pepper
-swig of olive oil
-the juice from 1/2 a lime
